Research and Collections form the base of our institution by conducting original scientific research, stewarding and building our diverse collections, and serving as the experts to inform science at local and international scales. Our work illuminates the natural world, from insights into prehistoric life to documenting changes in biodiversity over time and understanding processes beyond our planetary boundaries. We have opportunities within two main domains, as detailed in our title, Research and Collections. Research spans a wide range of opportunities that can involve fieldwork, data collection, data processing and analysis, and laboratory skills. Collections work involves specimen curation, preparation, and preservation. Within both of these domains of work, our section is split into different specialties, called Units. These include Astronomy & Astrophysics, Genomics & Microbiology, Geology, Herpetology, Ichthyology, Malacology, Mammalogy, Non-Molluscan Invertebrate Zoology, Ornithology, and Paleontology.
